Fertility is one every one of our tubal reversal patient’s minds. And we want to help you improve your fertility in every way possible.
A couple of months ago, we posted a blog about “8 Ways to Boost Your Fertility”. One of these was de-stressing. Lowering your stress levels can help your body relax and enable its natural processes to run smoothly again, including ovulation and pregnancy.
ABC News recently reported on a new type of fertility treatment that’s taking root in Florida – fertility yoga. The yoga is designed for women who are currently receiving fertility treatment or are trying to get pregnant.
The class emphasizes relaxation, meditation, and an overall slowing down of the mind and body from our fast-paced lives. Sherry Longbottom is a registered nurse and yoga instructor who designed the fertility yoga classes.
In her interview with ABC, Longbottom mentions, “We live in fight or flight mode…That kind of life goes completely against what we’re trying to look for in creating a fertile environment.”
Longbottom’s classes avoid any positions that put stress on a woman’s ovaries or pelvic region, such as downward dog or deep twists. They also emphasize increasing blood flow to the pelvic region. The classes are not too rigorous, as the focus is on allowing time and space for women to quiet their minds and connect with their bodies.
Doctors acknowledge that trying to conceive can be a very stressful time for women, whether or not they’ve had tubal reversal surgery. Therefore, yoga, meditation, and other forms of light exercise can be a great way to relax during these times. Longbottom emphasizes that uniting mind, body, and spirit has many health benefits.
Whether or not you are trying to conceive, you can reap the benefits of yoga and meditation. Taking 10 minutes of your day to breathe mindfully and allow your mind to settle down can have lasting effects. Yoga has been shown to decrease blood pressure, normalize endocrine functions, and increase immunity.
